Sara Bekele, MSW, LSWAIC

I am a second-generation immigrant, cisgender Black woman. I arrived to this work through my own continued healing journey in which I encountered other Black healers, who mirrored my identities and offered a safe, comforting and warm space.

I believe deeply in the power of healing as a form of resistance and tool for liberation in a world that benefits so deeply from our fragmentation and disconnection. My work is deeply informed by Audre Lorde’s revolutionary work in that, self-care, self-reflection, joy, and rest are essential parts of our personal and collective liberation.

Education and professional trainings

I hold a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and minor in Political Science. I also hold a Masters of Social Work with a focus in Clinical Social Work. I have experience in residential, and partial hospitalization settings, offering skill-based DBT and ACT group therapy. I completed my specialized practicum at a domestic violence agency, offering individual therapy to survivors of domestic violence. Since, I have provided therapy in private practice, working with a variety of presentations and mental health challenges, including anxiety, stress, life transitions, self-esteem, relationship conflict, racial trauma, and gender-based trauma.
